![]() Helmut Newton's Sumo The first edition of Helmut Newton's aptly named book Sumo weighed in at a massive 35.4kg complete with a specially designed display stand by Philippe Starck. In a limited edition of 10,000 signed and number copies the book quickly sold out and prices for secondhand volumes steadily increased, with copies currently exchanging hands for around $16,000, a significant increase on the original price tag of $2000 in 1999. Number one in the edition signed by 100 of the celebrities featured in the book sold at auction in Berlin for $430,000 in 2000, breaking the record for most expensive book published in the 20th century. A more democratic reprint has just been issued by Taschen to mark the 10th anniversary of the original publication, somewhat smaller but no less impresive with its own unique perspex display stand (above) and a much more accessible price tag.
